Externalizing your business

I talked a little bit about this in the Secret Agent portion of this training and now we will dive a little deeper in to the subject.

Externalizing your business simply means that you wear it on the outside and not on the inside which is highly ineffective.

The industry you are in is a “people” business not one of products and promotion. In order to effectively build your business you must do some from the inside out. In other words, to attract what you need you will have to exude what you believe.

That won’t happen with a tee shirt that reads, “My other car is a Brinks Truck”

Every company I know of has a full compliment of promotional materials like hats, shirts, coats, Frisbees, note books, buttons, pins, bumper stickers, pens and other assorted items designed to compliment your business.

Notice the word “compliment?”

All of these things are fine to use but if you are counting on them to attract the types of people you need to build a successful business forget it.

Being in network marketing is not like working for someone else. You are “it” 24-7.

You don’t put on your uniform, go to the local meeting and then return home and put it back in the closet.

It’s not a business where people will commonly come up to you ask, “Hey…I noticed that button you’re wearing. How do I get in that?”

When you have internalized your business you never miss the opportunity to share your story or to introduce yourself as a motivated small business person. You don’t have certain times or nights that you are this person because you are it all the time.

And when you really understand what makes the most successful people successful, then you can buy the tee shirt.
