Talking Too Much

Boy oh boy…if more people knew how much time they could save and how much more money they could make if they just understood two simple words: shut up.

Sorry if you find that offensive but sometimes you just have too tell it like it is and quite frankly those that can’t stop the mandible from flapping end up quitting and muttering “this doesn’t work.”

It all comes back to the simple logic that you are training people the minute you begin talking to them. If you are doing something they can’t see themselves doing do you really think they are going to be interested in you and your business?

Let me give you an example of what I am talking about.

I was flying back from a network marketing company convention where I had conducted training for their top earners. While waiting for the plane to begin boarding I noticed one of the conference attendees that has not attended my training talking to an airline pilot.

As I listened in I could hear the vibrant and attractive young woman telling the pilot all about her opportunity. She had the guys interest for the first few minutes but then you could begin to see that he was trying to get away.

Don’t ask me how I could tell. Maybe because his eyes were beginning to cross and his body language was screaming “get me out of here” but she wasn’t about to let go. She went on and on doing everything she could with the time she had to convince this poor soul that what she had is what he needed.

What really made me laugh though was when he finally attempted to make his break and said to her, “But I’m not good at sales” and she responded without missing a beat, “But this isn’t sales!”

Nearly choked on my fruit smoothie.

Not sales? She had just spent 20 minutes convincing him that it was and 3 seconds claiming it wasn’t!

What if our fair maiden had simply handed the pilot a card and asked for his at the time he actually had an interest?

What if she would have followed up professionally in a way that he could see himself doing?

What if he could have experienced what her business was really like in a simple, respectful manner?

You see, it is impossible to truly listen to what someone is saying when you are the one doing all the talking. In network marketing, it’s what the prospect say’s that’s important and the sooner you understand this the sooner you will begin enjoying success.
