For the most part, I think scripts are highly over rated.
Don’t get me wrong here…a well thought-out, well
written script can be a wonderful tool if in the hands or
should I say mouth of the right person.
The problem with scripts is that too many networker’s
believe the script is what gets people interested in their
business. In other words, too much emphasis is placed on the
message and not the messenger.
Ever since I have been in this industry I have heard this
over and over again…”It’s not what you say
it’s how you say it.” No truer words have ever
been spoken and if you heed this cerebral advice you will
become more effective in the development of a large and growing
team.
Scripts are best considered to be guidelines. A script is
there to keep you from going off in eight million different
directions when talking to a lead.
A script is not designed to convince or sell people in to
your business nor is it designed to be read like a play. Remember,
Billy Shakespeare never built a down line.
There is no such thing as a magic script.
There are great scripts to use and some better than others
but let’s face reality for a minute and realize that
the best script coming from the mouth of an uninspired person
is powerless. On the flip side, a mediocre script coming from
a person that is motivated, confident and sold on their business
and themselves can work wonders.
Here are a few simple rules about scripts that I
promise will help.
1. Don’t believe for a minute that the script alone
is the difference maker
2. Scripts are guidelines and not meant to read word for word
3. Personality can’t be written so you will be required
to add that when you
talk to your leads
4. Make room in your script to create a connection with the
person you are talking too
5. Make room in your script to listen to what your leads are
saying
6. Rehearse and practice so you can sound confident when you
call
7. It’s alright not to be perfect
8. Use them. No matter how good your script is or how good
you are, if you
aren’t talking to lot’s of
people you won’t grow your business
9. Keep it simple. You are training people the minute you
begin talking to them
Smile. Believe it or not it makes a big difference.
